Ethiopia: Prioritizing women workers’ rights in the garment and textile sector
A meeting of the IndustriALL union building project held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 16 November, with paticipation from FNV Mondiaal, Solidaridad, and the ILO, agreed to continue supporting the fight for workers’ rights by women in the garment and textile sector. Collective bargaining agreements and promoting health and safety at factories were the other key areas discussed.

Forty members of Birleşik Metal-İş have been dismissed from the Posco Assan steel plant in Kocaeli, Turkey, for joining the union.

South Africa: Coalminers give notice to strike
Coalminers in South Africa belonging to IndustriALL Global Union affiliate, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), will give notice to strike on 16 November after wage negotiations with the Chamber of Mines have reached a deadlock. Miners were demanding a one off payment of US$77. Further, they wanted an eight per cent increase in 2018, and nine per cent in 2019.
