Tell EPA their plan needs a fix

The EPA’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) paints a bulls-eye on America’s existing coal-fired power fleet. The CPP will require electric utilities to slash carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent, based on 2012 levels, by 2030. We know what that could mean. More plant closures.

Local 69 ramps up political action

Lodge seeks access to more boiler work

WITH ELECTION SEASON well under way, Local 69 (Little Rock, Ark.) has ramped up its political action efforts by presenting contributions to candidates it believes can do the most good for working people and the union.

L-69 LEAP committee chairman Richard Rowley, who recently took over responsibilities from Don Hensley, who retired, said the lodge has made donations to the campaigns of U.S. Senator Mark Pryor, gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross, and candidates for the U.S. House and Arkansas House.

Funds support pro-worker candidates, member education

TOP DONORS TO CAF and LEF in 2013 received recognition during the 46th annual Legislative Education Action Program (LEAP) conference in Washington, D.C., April 28-May 1. The awards went to vice presidential sections, individual lodges and individual members.

Delegates praise organization, planning

DELEGATES ATTENDING THE 2014 LEAP conference at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, D.C., April 27-May 1 found much to like about the annual event. A full-slate of quality speakers, a record-setting turn-out for the congressional reception, and the smoothest-running conference in recent memory had many participants describing the conference as “the best one yet.”

U.S. Congressman from Pennsylvania has strong labor roots

THE BOILERMAKERS UNION has named U.S. Rep. Robert A. Brady (D-1st PA) the Abe Breehey Legislator of the Year for 2014. The award will be presented to the congressman during the 2014 LEAP conference, April 28 – May 1, at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.
