**UPDATED** On 7 April the court of Astana sentenced Nurbek Kushakbayev to two-and-a-half years in a corrective labour colony for his calls to hold a strike. This is the first time a union leader has been prosecuted through the recently adopted Criminal Code. The judge has also satisfied the OCC’s demand to collect KZT 25 million (US$80,000) from Kushakbayev for alleged harm caused to the company.

With 8 March less than two weeks away, IndustriALL Global Union affiliates are getting ready to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Workers at the Hundred Tex Garment factory in Yangon, Myanmar, are demanding owed overtime payment and better working conditions after a drawn-out conflict with the Chinese management.  

IndustriALL Global Union affiliate the Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) announced at its National Conference that it will take legal action against Chinese steel dumping.

Proposed amendments to the Labour Code in Belarus will significantly weaken workers’ rights and lead to social instability in the country say trade unions. The government’s proposals could be considered by parliament as early as April 2017.

**UPDATED** The 35 Bangladeshi unionists and garment workers arrested since December last year have all been released. This follows an international campaign led by IndustriALL Global Union and UNI Global Union against the Bangladesh government’s crackdown on the labour movement.
