Boilermakers set another fundraising record
THE 9TH ANNUAL Union Sportsmen’s Alliance/Boilermakers Clay Shoot held in Lenexa, Kansas, September 23 raised more than $184,000, setting an all-time high for USA shooting events and topping the previous record of $160,000 set by the Boilermakers in 2016. The event took place at the Powder Creek Shooting Park.
“As always, the Boilermakers have set the bar high” for USA shoots, said Scott Vance, the USA’s CEO and Executive Director, in ceremonies concluding the day.
The alliance holds more than a dozen union-sponsored shoots around the country each year, including an event in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the AFL-CIO.
The high overall team at the 2017 USA/IBB event, representing Heartland Electric and IBEW Local 124, scored an impressive 474 out of 500. The high individual winner, Bud Dunn, representing Callenders Printing, set a record for USA shooting events with a perfect 100 out of 100 performance.
Coordinating the event for the Boilermakers were Mark Vandiver, ED-CSO; Gene Forkin, AD-CSO/ED-QCCUS; and Kyle Evenson, retired ED-CSO.
“The support we got from our lodges, Bank of Labor and our numerous other sponsors was just phenomenal,” said Vandiver. “And Boilermaker staff stepped up in a big way with 95 percent of staff members making contributions totaling more than $10,000. That was a great demonstration of solidarity for our event. My thanks to everybody who made this year’s shoot such a resounding success.”
