MEMBERS OF LOCAL 73 (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Local 146 (Edmonton, Alberta) completed the two-day Field Supervisor Training Program earlier this year. The program emphasizes the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor, leadership skills, and communication techniques.
Grant Jacobs, Canadian National Director of Apprenticeship and Education, explained that the purpose of the program is to develop confidence and effectiveness in field supervisors. “Contractors who have previously sent supervisors for the training have expressed a commitment to encourage their future supervisors to participate. The course compliments on-the-job experience with a greater awareness of the business aspects of construction and the administration responsibilities of a supervisor.”
