District 10 steward training prepares leaders

D10 Steward Training, Toronto, Ontario

DISTRICT D10, FORMED in 2016 to represent 11 cement locals in Eastern Canada, held its first steward training session last year, with Ontario lodges meeting at Local 128 in Toronto and Nova Scotia and New Brunswick lodges meeting at the Hampton Inn in Moncton, New Brunswick. IR Richard MacIntosh conducted level 1 and level 2 steward classes at both locations. D10 BM-ST Tony Andrade also participated in the training.

International announces 2014 scholarship winners

Twenty-seven Boilermaker dependents earn awards totaling $50,000

THE BOILERMAKERS’ International Executive Council scholarship committee announced the winners of its 2014 scholarship program this past April. The committee awarded $50,000 to 28 recipients, with $40,000 being allocated to U.S. applicants and $10,000 to Canadian applicants.

Members from six Canadian locals attend steward training

FIFTY-ONE MEMBERS from six lodges attended a stewards program in Canada during the first half of this year.

On Jan. 19, Local 359 held a training program at its Burnaby, British Columbia, union hall and another program the following day on Vancouver Island. Participants included Robert Barber, Al Bennett, Robert Brugge, Ben Gogol, Larry Greenwood, Chris Hoskins, Hayden Huntley, Robert Maeschalck, Egon Maver, Hilary Peach, Rob Raj, Jason Swetlikoff, and Dan Steele.

Program held in five cities in United States and Canada

2008 WAS AN election year — not only for the governments of Canada and the United States, but also for Boilermaker local lodges in both countries. While U.S. lodges must hold elections every three years, Canadian lodges do so every five years. Occasionally, the Boilermaker local lodge election cycles coincide, as they did in 2008.

Local 13 awards 33 grants totaling $264,000

LOCAL LODGE 13, Philadelphia, announces the winners of 33 scholarship awards, each totaling $8,000, to dependents of Local 13 members who participated in the local’s annual competition. Winners were selected based on the results of a college aptitude test administered and graded by St. Joseph’s University. The grants will be awarded over a period of four years — $1,000 per semester for eight semesters. The Local 13 scholarship committee does not release names of scholarship winners for publication.
