Unionists to participate in Oct. 2 marches around the country
ONE MONTH BEFORE the elections — on Saturday, Oct. 2 — thousands of union members will join with community activists, students, entertainers, civil and human rights leaders, and progressive politicians to march for jobs, justice, and education for all Americans. One Nation Working Together is a social movement of individuals and organizations committed to putting America back to work and pulling America back together. Coming from diverse backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and orientations, the group is determined to build a more united country with good jobs, equal justice, and high-quality public education for all. Unions are sponsoring some 1,400 buses from around the country to transport participants to the march at the nation’s capital in Washington on Oct. 2. If you can’t attend the event, you can watch it live on Free Speech TV (FSTV) with hosts Thom Hartmann and Laura Flanders. The television broadcast will include main stage speeches, interviews with organizers and analysts, and reporting from the crowd. It will air nationally from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on DISH Network channel 9415, DIRECTV channel 348, and numerous cable stations across the country.
Better still, you can attend a One Nation rally and march near you. AFL-CIO state federations, central labor councils, and other union organizations are sponsoring 82 local rallies in 16 states across the country, from California to New Hampshire.
