TEN MEMBERS OF the Piper High School Trap Team in Kansas City, Kansas, qualified this year for the Kansas State High School Clay Target League 2019 Top 100 All-State Team. The Boilermakers and Bank of Labor support the newly formed youth shooting group. Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA), the Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council and Piper Optimist Club are also significant sponsors.
“This competitive shooting team is very strong and getting tougher every day,” said AIP/ED-CSO Gene Forkin. “These young men and women are learning how to safely and accurately handle a firearm while also building life skills such as teamwork, confidence and persistence.”
Boilermakers participated in a recent trap-shoot fundraiser set up by the teens. The team raised more than $10,000 to supply ammunition and support their participation in regional and national competitions.
The team’s sport oversight body is the Kansas State High School Clay Target League, which is a member of the USA High School Clay Target League, a division of the USA Clay Target League – a non-profit corporation. According to its website, the League is the independent provider of clay target shooting sports as an extracurricular co-ed and adaptive activity for high schools and students in grades 6 through 12. The League's priorities are safety, fun and marksmanship.
