THE LOCKHEED-MARTIN-led industry team building Littoral Combat Ships for the U.S. Navy announced June 6 that it has delivered the Fort Worth (LCS 3) to the Navy two months ahead of schedule. Boilermaker members belonging to Local 696 (Marinette, Wis.) are playing a major role in the construction of the LCS series of ships. With a price tag of $360 million, the versatile, high-speed Fort Worth is designed for a range of operations in shallow coastal waters.
