L-92 sponsors 5K charity run

A group of L-92 members volunteer at the 5K for Change. L. to R. are Rudy Portillo, Hal Clark Jr., Recording Secretary Jamesee Yoakum, Peter Estrada and Tamyesha Maynard.

Local 92 (Los Angeles) recently supported the 5K for Change race, hosted by the Louise W. Calhoun Foundation. The annual event raises funds for youth and veteran scholarships as well as supporting community programs throughout the Los Angeles Harbor area. As part of their commitment to giving back, L-92 sponsored 20 children to participate in the 5K.

In addition to their financial sponsorship, during the 5K, L-92 members volunteered, participated in the race itself and had the opportunity to hand out recruiting material and talk about a career in the Boilermakers.

“The event filled me with an incredible sense of pride,” said L-92 Recording Secretary Jamesee Yoakum. “Being able to explain to the next generation that there’s a spot for them in our union and explaining just how much the Boilermakers changed my life and can change theirs gives me great joy that we’re helping build a stronger future.”
