L-549 Boilermakers Women at Work members celebrate their win

On September 18th at the annual Contra Costa Labor Council's Labor to Labor dinner, Local 549’s Boilermakers Women at Work committee was presented with the Frances Perkins Award.

The award was presented to the committee by State Legislative Coordinator for the Western States, Tim Jefferies, who serves as vice president of the labor council’s executive board.

"These events allow members to showcase their unions and the leaders within, inspiring other union members to get involved and make their union work. The labor movement requires all of us, and all of our talents," said Jefferies.

Two Local 549 members are especially active with the Contra Costa Labor Council. Kesheona Darden sits on the Contra Costa Labor Council as the Young Workers Advocate and Angel Greer was elected to the Contra Costa Democratic Party via the labor council.

"We stand proud to receive the Francis Perkins Award for the second year in a row, honoring not only our commitment to our community but also the trailblazing women and Boilermakers who pave the way before us. We will be looking forward to number three next year," said L-549 Business Agent and Boilermakers Women at Work Chairperson Rennae Ross.
