Help workers achieve dignity on the job
November 28 is Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year — and the most profitable for Walmart and other stores.
Walmart rakes in $16 billion a year in profits. It’s owners are the richest family in the United States, with more wealth than 43 percent of Americans combined. Walmart can afford to treat its workers with dignity. It chooses not to. Far too many Walmart workers continue to live in poverty and rely on public programs like food stamps to survive. That’s why 2,000 stores (more than half of Walmart stores nationwide) have joined calls for $15 an hour and full-time work.
This Black Friday, the UFCW encourages you to send the Waltons a message. Go to your local Walmart with a sign saying you support the workers fighting for fair pay and respect, get a picture of yourself, and tell the manager you support the workers’ cause. Walmart tracks all of these actions, and they have a huge impact.
