Boilermakers call for an end to government shutdown
Following is an official statement from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers:
Kansas City, Mo. (Oct. 24, 2025)— On behalf of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers, we urge immediate bipartisan Congressional action to pay our federal workers.
“The current shutdown is impacting hard-working patriots, including the men and women of our union, many of whom are veterans from all branches of military service, and who are in the process of building and maintaining America’s maritime fleets,” International President Timothy Simmons said. “These dedicated Americans are working without pay yet continue to serve our nation in shipyards, dry docks and military facilities, just as proudly as they served our country here and in foreign lands.”
Twenty-four days is far too long for anyone in today’s economic climate to go without receiving their hard-earned pay. We ask all members of Congress to remember the families affected by this devastating loss of income.
“In the Boilermaker’s Union, we are known for rolling up our sleeves and working together to get a job done,” Simmons said. “This is expected of us, and we expect the same of our elected leaders during this difficult time.
Established in 1880, the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers is a diverse union representing workers throughout the United States and Canada who are employed in industrial construction, maintenance and repair; ship building; manufacturing; railroads; cement; mining and related industries.
