Building Trades will host Women Build Nations conference

Locals, other labor bodies urged to send members

THE SIXTH NATIONAL Women Build Unions Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Conference Center in Rosemont, Ill., April 29 – May 1.

The goal of the conference is to promote recruitment and advance women’s leadership in the construction industry and in the unions working in the industry.

Since the State Building Trades Council of California held its first Women Building California Conference in 2002, the number of tradeswomen attending the event has grown each year. In 2015, over 1,000 women and men attended the conference in Los Angeles.

The Chicago Women in the Trades is now working with the Tradeswomen Committee of the North America’s Building Trades Unions to develop the conference agenda, which will include speakers, workshops and networking opportunities.

The national Building Trades urge local lodges and other union organizations to send female apprentices and journeymen to the conference and to support the event through sponsorships.
