Cement lodge leaders discuss bargaining and steward training

CEMENT DISTRICT LODGE D11, encompassing 13 affiliated lodges in Western Canada, held its annual conference for lodge leaders July 10-13 in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. The conference offered local leaders the opportunity to learn more about their role in the union and to network with other leaders within the district. Educational sessions included information on drug and alcohol testing, group insurance, basic steward training and benefit bargaining.

Support the L-D331 flood relief fund

THE WORST FLOODING in Alberta’s recorded history brought devastation to the region this past summer with estimated losses of $5 billion (Canadian) and more than 100,000 people displaced. Boilermaker members from Local D331 (Exshaw) and Local 146 (Edmonton) have suffered substantial damages to their homes, automobiles, and other property. Some still cannot return to their homes.

L-D331 has set up a relief fund to help their members, and the International disaster fund has contributed $10,000 in assistance.

National Cement Lodge

Effective Dec. 15, 2007 to Dec. 14, 2013, for five members of the National Cement Lodge who work in shipping and maintenance at Cemex, a manufacturer of Portland cement in Neville Island, Pa.

Local 5 — New York

Effective Dec. 1, 2007 to Nov. 30, 2008, for two members of Local 5, New York, who make fiberglass storage tanks at Cardinal Fiberglass Industries Inc.
