Western States negotiates ‘best ever’ agreement

CALLING IT THE “most progressive agreement in the nation,” Intl. Vice Pres. Tom Baca praised the Western States business managers and Intl. reps for their exceptional effort in reaching a three-year pact with their signatory contractors.

Program held in five cities in United States and Canada

2008 WAS AN election year — not only for the governments of Canada and the United States, but also for Boilermaker local lodges in both countries. While U.S. lodges must hold elections every three years, Canadian lodges do so every five years. Occasionally, the Boilermaker local lodge election cycles coincide, as they did in 2008.

Cushing family grateful for memories

WE WOULD LIKE to thank everyone for their condolences, flowers, and cards. It is of the utmost importance to his family that Ray [past New Jersey Local 28 BM-ST] be remembered for the man he was and the dedication he gave to his union and his family.

Our experiences with the Boilermakers have marked our lives indelibly. We will treasure these memories always.

Western States holds 21st apprentice competition

Rosas takes top spot, VanDam places second

JEREMY ROSAS OF Local 242 (Spokane, Wash.) won the James F. Precht Award as the top apprentice in the 21st annual Western States Area Outstanding Graduate Apprentice Competition held May 12-14 at Local 242. Brian VanDam of Local 182 (Salt Lake City, Utah) placed second.


Construction BMs train in Kansas City

New business managers from the U.S. and Canada attend training in Kansas City July 27-31.

NEARLY TWO DOZEN U.S. and Canadian business managers met in Kansas City, Mo., July 27-31 for new officer training. The event was hosted by Construction Division Services (CDS) in conjunction with the Education and Training Services Department.

“We had an excellent group that stayed focused the entire week on the curriculum we developed for new business managers,” said CDS Director Skipper Branscum. “Our goal was to introduce these leaders to the various programs and resources that are available to help them succeed.”

Joe Stinger retires after 40 years of service

The Intl. executive council voted J. Tom Baca into the office of International vice president for the Western States effective January 31. Baca, BM-ST for Local 549 (Pittsburg, Calif.), was nominated by International President Newton B. Jones to take the position vacated by IVP Joe Stinger’s retirement.
