Local 158 donates to veterans’ Honor Flights

Members of Local 158 wear red to raise funds for Honor Flights. They donated $2,100 to Honor Flights at their May meeting.

LOCAL 158 (PEORIA, ILLINOIS) members love veterans, and that shows in their fundraising. The local raises money for veterans through their Red Friday shirts, spearheaded by L-158 sister Keri Elliott. The money goes to sponsor Honor Flights, an organization that takes veterans to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials. At the May union meeting, members donated $2,100 for veterans’ trips to Gene Neeley, a 94-year-old World War II veteran affiliated with Honor Flights.

International announces scholarship winners

Thirty-one Boilermaker dependents earn awards totaling $50,000

THE BOILERMAKERS’ International Executive Council scholarship committee announced the winners of its 2015 scholarship program this past April. The committee awarded $50,000 to 31 recipients, with $38,000 being allocated to U.S. applicants and $12,000 to Canadian applicants.

Local 158 celebrates Labor Day

LOCAL 158 (Peoria, Ill.) members and their families turned out in good numbers September 1 for the annual Peoria Labor Day Parade organized by the West Central Illinois Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Members of the lodge are employed by Komatsu America Corp.’s Peoria Manufacturing Operation, Mining Division. They build large (up to 360-ton payload), off-road mining trucks for mining applications around the world. They also support mining equipment produced at other Komatsu facilities, such as bulldozers, excavators, and wheel loaders.

THE BOILERMAKERS’ International Executive Council scholarship committee announced the winners of its 2013 scholarship program this past April. The committee awarded $54,000 to 27 recipients, with $42,000 being allocated to U.S. applicants and $12,000 to Canadian applicants.

BOILERMAKER LOCAL 158 (Peoria, Ill.) members and their families turned out Sept. 3 for the annual Peoria Labor Day parade organized by the West Central Illinois Labor Council, AFL-CIO.

L-158 members turn out for Labor Day

LOCAL 158 (Peoria, Ill.) members and their families celebrated Labor Day September 5 by marching in the annual parade. L-158 President Dave Gullette said his lodge is working hard to build up union spirit, and he is pleased with the nice turn-out for the event.

The local was chartered in 1940 as a manufacturing lodge. L-158 members are employed by Komatsu and build super-sized (up to 360-ton payload) off-road dump trucks used in mining operations around the world.

L-M18 — Buffalo, N.Y.

Effective May 8, 2010 to May 3, 2013, for six members of Local M18 (Buffalo, N.Y.) who manufacture decontamination and sterilization equipment for Getinge Sourcing LLC in Rochester, N.Y. Products include washers/disinfectors, warming cabinets, sterilizers, and scrub sinks used in the health care industry.

L-M18 — Buffalo, N.Y.

Effective June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2011, for 24 members of Local M18, Buffalo, N.Y., who make metal plating at the Keystone Corp.

Local 158 supports Easter Seals Telethon

Komatsu Mining Systems matches union donations

MEMBERS OF LOCAL 158, Peoria, Ill., raised $2,000 for Easter Seals this year. L-158 President S. Mike Damm answered phones during the annual March 31-April 1 telethon, accepting donations for the help and hope of children with disabilities. He raised funds from Local 158 members who work at Komatsu Mining Systems and from two sister companies: Teleweld, out of Streater, Ill., and John Best & Sons, out of Galva, Ill. Komatsu then matched the donations.
