How to apply for a 2009 Boilermaker Scholarship

BOILERMAKER SCHOLARSHIPS are open to high school seniors who will be entering their first year of a two- or four-year academic program at a degree-granting, accredited college or university within one year of their high school graduation.

A dependent may be a son, daughter, legally-adopted child, or other dependent of an active, retired, disabled, or deceased member.

Winners are chosen based on a variety of criteria that include grades, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, and a written essay on an assigned topic.

International announces 2008 scholarship winners

Forty-one Boilermaker dependents earn awards totaling $50,000

THE BOILERMAKERS’ INTERNATIONAL Executive Council scholarship committee announced the winners of its 2008 scholarship program April 25. A total of $50,000 was awarded to 41 scholarship recipients: $38,000 to United States students and $12,000 to Canadian students.

Daughter of L-105 member earns medical degree

Miranda Beth Binion, daughter of L-105 member Jesse Binion, graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.

Union scholarship winner to practice internal medicine

MIRANDA BETH BINION graduated May 12 with honors from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. She is the daughter of Sheila Flaugher Binion and Jesse F. Binion, a 29–year member of Local 105 (Chillicothe, Ohio), and granddaughter of retired Local 105 members Jack Binion and the late Ed Flaugher.

Once she completes her three-year residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Dr. Binion plans to practice internal medicine near her hometown of Grayson, Ky.

Local 587 wins national NACBE safety award

Orange, Texas, lodge works without injury in 2006

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of Construction Boilermaker Employers (NACBE) presented its annual safety awards to the 2006 top-performing locals from the Boilermakers’ five U.S. vice-presidential areas March 5 during the annual Construction Division conference at Marco Island, Fla.

Local 587 (Orange, Texas), representing the South and Central area, took national honors with zero lost-time accidents, zero compensable injuries, and zero OSHA-recordable injuries.
