Congressional reception draws large crowd

Nearly 50 members of Congress attend

FEDERAL LAWMAKERS AND A diverse crowd representing labor unions, federal agencies, contractors, industry owners, consultants and attorneys thronged the Boilermakers’ Congressional Reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel near Capitol Hill April 28.

Nearly 50 members of Congress attended, a relatively large number for this type of event. Bridget Martin, Director of Political Affairs, called the turn-out “unprecedented,” and Ron Ault, President of the Metal Trades said it was “the best run, best attended” legislative reception he has ever attended.

Guest legislators stopped to get their photos taken with Boilermaker International officers and local lodge delegates, and then spent time with the delegates discussing pressing issues and establishing or strengthening relationships.

Congressional receptions are a staple of Washington, D.C., as they offer lawmakers and their constituents an opportunity to relax and communicate in a less stressful and less formal venue, away from the hectic pace of legislative offices and the Capitol building.
