Western States M.O.R.E. Work Investment Fund Organizers Mircha Vorobets, Erik Seaberg and Trent Sorensen with IR Mark Keffeler, BM-ST Tracey Eixenberger and members of L-502 in front of the Washington State Capital successfully lobbied to get HB 1817 passed. The measure awaits Washington State Governor Jay Inslee to sign it into law.

Important news out of Washington State for Boilermakers: Proposed legislation has passed both the State House and Senate that requires 60 percent of craftsmen and women working in Washington State refineries to be apprentices of state approved programs—including the Boilermakers apprenticeship program.

The measure, which was powered by Boilermakers Western States M.O.R.E. Work Investment Fund through a joint effort with the Washington State Building Trades, now awaits the signature of Washington State Governor Jay Inslee.

“We are hopeful that Governor Inslee will sign the measure into law,” says International President Newton B. Jones. “When fully implemented, we anticipate this legislation would increase annual Boilermaker man-hours in the Western States by 1 to 2 million a year.”
