We are looking for short videos from Construction and Industrial operations Boilermakers sharing their stories about what it means to be a union Boilermaker. We’re also looking for Industrial Sector Operations Local Lodge leaders to share how organizing with the Boilermakers has been beneficial.
It’s easy… just:
- Use your smart phone or tablet, and make sure the video is set to record in Standard resolution/1080p. Many phones and tablets can now shoot video at higher resolutions; however, the files may be much too large to upload here. If you have a way to share larger videos like Google Photos, you can provide us with a link instead of uploading directly. Emailing video files to us is NOT recommended.
- Answer one of these two questions:
- What does it mean to you to be a union Boilermaker? (Why is it important for you to be a union Boilermaker? What are the benefits of belonging to the union)?
- How has organizing with the Boilermakers benefitted you and your co-workers? (what was the job like before going union, and what’s it like now? How does the union work together to help everyone?)
- Keep your video brief—no longer than 1.5 minutes. Shorter is fine.
- Don’t use &%$# profanity.
- Complete the form here.
- Upload your video.
- Hit “submit.”
A few tips:
- Have someone else do the recording, and whether it’s you or someone else being filmed, make sure the frame is pretty close and from elbow up (see example).
- Lighting – natural light is best, but indoor lights are fine. Try not to stand or sit directly in front of a light source - we want to see your face as you speak.
- If possible, wear a Boilermaker shirt or cap, stand in front of your local lodge sign, or (with permission and SAFELY) in front of your work location.
- If you’re filming at your work site, make sure you’re complying with company policies, and get the right permissions.
- Avoid having restrooms, exit signs or anything odd in the background.
- Test the sound before you get too far into filming. Please be aware of loud noise, traffic or other audible distractions.
- Do a test question—something easy—and play it back to do a double check on the sound and background.
- If your family would like to join you and answer, please include them! If you and a few coworkers would like to do this together, that is OK too – just be sure they are identified in your email and can be seenand heard.
- If you don’t like the first take, just try it again!
