Kudos - the Boilermaker Reporter V49N3

FMS credits L-582 for outage success

Fluor [Maintenance Services (FMS)] and NRG [Energy Inc.] have just completed a boiler outage on unit 2 at the Big Cajun II [a coal-fired power plant in New Roads, La.].

Facing an extremely tight schedule of 21 working days, this outage of 140,000 man-hours was a major concern to both NRG and Fluor. [However,] the outage was extremely successful, largely due to the Boilermakers dispatched by Local 582 [Baton Rouge, La.].

THE NORTHEAST AND Great Lakes areas held their 23rd annual joint graduate apprentice competitions May 4-8 at Local 5 Zone 197 (Albany, N.Y.). The top two finishers in each contest will represent their areas in the national contest in Kansas City, Kan., Sept. 27-Oct. 1.

MOST holds project management training

Project management training, Jan. 18-23, Embassy Suites Hotel, Kansas City, Mo.

MEMBERS FROM 17 Boilermaker lodges traveled to Kansas City, Mo., to attend a project management training class sponsored by MOST, the Boilermakers’ Mobilization, Optimization, Stabilization, and Training Fund. Held at the Embassy Suites Hotel near the Kansas City International Airport Jan.

Construction BMs train in Kansas City

New business managers from the U.S. and Canada attend training in Kansas City July 27-31.

NEARLY TWO DOZEN U.S. and Canadian business managers met in Kansas City, Mo., July 27-31 for new officer training. The event was hosted by Construction Division Services (CDS) in conjunction with the Education and Training Services Department.

“We had an excellent group that stayed focused the entire week on the curriculum we developed for new business managers,” said CDS Director Skipper Branscum. “Our goal was to introduce these leaders to the various programs and resources that are available to help them succeed.”
