Services and Responsibilities

The Organizing Department of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers, AFL-CIO, develops organizing programs and coordinates, supports, supplies, and implements the Brotherhood's organizing activities throughout the United States and Canada.

This department provides support service for construction organizing, in-plant organizing, and new-plant organizing.

The Fight Back Construction Organizing Program assists lodges with their organizing efforts in the construction and maintenance industries. Designed to organize from the inside out, this program has increased man-hours for construction members and convinced some nonunion contractors to become signatory to Boilermaker national agreements.

The Boilermakers New Plant Organizing Program can help local lodges organize new facilities in their area or new units of their current employer.

The Boilermakers In-Plant Organizing Program was designed to organize workers within facilities where the Boilermakers already have bargaining rights and represent the workers, but where the Boilermakers do not have 100 percent membership. It is a cost-effective and successful way to produce additional members and bypass both an election and a new first contract negotiations process.
