Japanese labor leaders visit HQ

Group represents workers from country’s electric power industry

TWENTY-SIX UNION LEADERS from Japan’s electric power industry visited International headquarters September 28-29 to learn more about U.S. electric power and to build goodwill between unions in Japan and the United States.

International staff and administrative employees met the delegation upon its arrival at the Kansas City International Airport and later treated the group to some of the city’s finest barbecue and other attractions. Tyler Brown, AAIP/ED-ISO, coordinated the Brotherhood’s participation, which also included a tour of headquarters. During the visit, Director of Legislative Affairs Cecile Conroy led discussions with the delegation regarding electric utility issues and trends in the United States and Japan as well as international trade and other topics.

Yoshio Sato, General Secretary of IndustriALL-JAF, and Masaaki Ninagawa, Director of the Denryoku Soren Wage Policy Department, led the Japanese delegation, which included representatives of the Hokkaido Electric Power Workers Union, Tohoku Electric Power Workers Union, Chubu Electric Power Workers Union, Hokuriku Electric Power Workers Union, Kansai Electric Power Workers Union, Chugoku Electric Power Workers Union, Shikoku Electric Power Workers Union, Kyushu Electric Power Workers Union, Kyushu Electric Power Cooperative Society, Okinawa Electric Power Workers Union, The Japan Atomic Power Workers Union, Electric Power Development Workers Union, Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited Workers Union, and The Federation of Electric Power Related Industry Workers Unions of Japan, IndustriALL-JAF.
